The Vermont Department of Libraries (VTLIB) provides equipment, management and support for a Wide Area Network (WAN) connecting 43 Vermont public libraries. The WAN was created through the Vermont FiberConnect Project, a public-private partnership and project between the Vermont Telecommunications Authority (VTA) and Sovernet Communications.
Vermont FiberConnect received a $33.4 million grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program. VTLIB received a $550,000 grant from the Gates Foundation’s Opportunity Online Broadband Grant Program to support the purchase of networking equipment and to develop an E-rate Toolkit.
