Grants Collection at the Vermont State Library
The Vermont State Library is part of a network of over 400 Foundation Center Cooperating Collections located in libraries in the United States and abroad. The cooperating collections serve individuals and nonprofit organizations. There is a second Vermont cooperating collection at the Ilsley Library in Middlebury. If you live in a border community, you may find the cooperating collections in NH, MA or NY more convenient than either Vermont location. More information about the Grants Collection....

Ashgate Publishing Company Grant 2013
Since the year 2000, Ashgate Publishing Company in Burlington has devoted a large portion of its annual charitable contributions budget to support libraries around the state.
In the wake of the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Irene, and in recognition of our role as a corporate citizen in this state, Ashgate UK made a special donation in late 2011 in support of Vermont and Vermonters: $2,500 for the Vermont Public Libraries Foundation and $1,000 to the Librarians Relief Fund. We found from the requests in 2012 that many libraries were still getting back on their feet from this devastation and the resulting local budget cuts. Ashgate is proud to support our Vermont libraries through our Library Grant Program.
Through its library donations program, Ashgate makes grants to public libraries in Vermont for special one-time projects and needs (as opposed to standard operating expenses and book budgets) as they arise. The charitable donations committee encourages libraries to apply for grants that supplement other fundraising efforts. Libraries are also encouraged to team up with other area libraries and apply for grants collectively. We encourage you to seek commitments of company-match grants whenever/wherever possible as well.
Ashgate's charitable donations committee decides what amount to donate to which library (full or partial grants), in consultation with the company's staff members. Ashgate does NOT make grants in support of:
1. capital campaigns
2. operating budgets
3. general collection development
Please note: there is NO formal grant application form.
Grant applications should take the form of a cover letter which:
1. explains the nature of the project
2. specifically addresses what population(s) will be served by the project
3. addresses how they will be served
4. states the amount requested, with a budget if appropriate, or at least a justification for the amount
5. provides a breakdown of the costs associated with the project.
6. states the time frame in which the project is scheduled to be completed
7. includes any photos that may be of assistance in the decision making process (if available).
8. includes a current contact name/position as well as a current phone number and valid email address. If your library has a web address please also include that in your correspondence.
We are currently accepting applications for our 2013 grants. The deadline is September 27, 2013. The grants will be awarded in mid-November of 2013. All applicants will be notified as to whether or not your application has been selected for funding by e-mail.

National Endowment for the Humanities: America's Historical and Cultural Organizations: Planning and Implementation Grants
The Division of Public Programs at the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities funds humanities projects that are intended for broad public audiences at museums, libraries, historic sites and other historical and cultural organizations.
New application guidelines are now posted on the NEH Web site (www.neh.gov) for our America's Historical and Cultural Organizations: Planning and Implementation grants.
Planning grants support the early stages of project development, including consultation with scholars, refinement of humanities themes, preliminary design, and audience evaluation.
Implementation grants support final scholarly research and consultation, design development, production, and installation of a project for presentation to the public.
Grants support interpretive exhibitions, reading or film discussion series, historic site interpretation, lecture series and symposia, and digital projects. NEH especially encourages projects that offer multiple formats and make creative use of new technology to deliver humanities content.
Program officers in the Division of Public Programs are available to assist you, whether it is to discuss project ideas or to read a draft of a proposal.
