On the Brink of Transition: Cataloging, Organization, and Access

This five-day concentrated, practical  workshop is designed for beginners and for librarians who are cataloging but have had little or no formal training. The DEWEY DECIMAL CLASSIFICATION and the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS SUBJECT HEADINGS will be the basic working tools. MARC cataloging and computerized cataloging services wil be covered. Because this type of workshop requires a great deal of individualized  instruction, participation will be limited to 15 people.

Collection Development

This workshop is designed for the public librarian with little or no formal training who selects and purchases books and other materials. We will discuss philosophical issues and present practical aspects of this complex responsibility, including policy making, intellectual freedom, and selecting, ordering, weeding, and maintaining a collection. Attention will be given to all formats, including DVDs, audio books, online materials.
