The Vermont Department of Libraries is always looking to improve the availability of technological assistance to all of the libraries in the State. Hoping to compile a list of businesses which are willing to give special consideration to our libraries, we requested information of 16 businesses in Vermont and New Hampshire which are serving at least one Vermont library. Staff Augmentation:  The Tech Group provides “help desk” support to its enterprise class customers designed to assist the current IT staff.  We are able to provide both onsite as well as remote assistance.

Remote Support:  This service allows our team access to your firewall and server for diagnostic and repair purposes. Via a connection through our web site we are able to access desktops and laptops remotely for diagnostic, repair, scheduled updates of Antivirus definitions, Operating System and application patches. Remote support is as simple as accessing our company’s website at www.tgvt.net and logging on to the Remote Help Desk section.

On-Site Support:  The Tech Group’s experienced technicians provide both phone support and onsite service as needed. Services include installation, upgrades, system administration services, network server support, firewall, internet / email, network security and general maintenance support.  Scheduling a technician to assist your company on site is as easy as picking up the phone and calling our service center at (802) 862-1197.

Project Assistance:  The Tech Group is more than willing and able to assist your company with any of your specific project needs.  This service includes an initial consultation, the purchasing of any/all hardware or software required, and the installation of any/all of your equipment.   Our highly trained sales and technical staff are available Monday through Friday 8am – 5pm (EST) ready to assist in whatever your specific project needs may be.

UMS is a full service provider in that we can provide hardware and software as well as hardware and network support. We can engineer complex solutions. UMS has been providing services to Vermont State and Local Governments for more than 25 years.

We have some very high level skills, beyond basic networking that may be relevant for some library projects.

 We have expertise in standards and specifications for digital repositories and libraries and we sell and support digital media asset management software environments. I have been heavily involved in eLearning infrastructure, including expertise in metadata and metadata tools, federated search tools across multiple repositories, and symantec web context categorization software for chewing through piles of electronic documents. We have developed some advanced personalization software for eLearning for the Federal Government.  Tom was a principal author for the IMSGLOBAL Digital Repository Interoperability Specification 1.0 and helped develop the SCORM environment and other eLearning Specs. We have expertise in Digital Libraries and Learning Management Systems for online learning including several of the Open Source Tools.

We have expertise in building cost effective digital archives for books, documents, periodicals, film, audio tapes, video, photographs and other media. This includes expertise in scanning. We have a book scanner. We can design small systems for libraries that wish to start digital collections. We have expertise and technology for recovering and digitizing old audio or video tape, such as oral history recordings. We can also do scanning or digitizing projects for libraries or other organizations.
