This daylong workshop will provide basic training in providing information sources and services to library users seeking reference assistance. We will explore how to evaluate information sources, as well as how to optimize searching and information retrieval. The interpersonal and customer service skills required to conduct a successful reference interview will also be explored and discussed. Through engaged discussion, interactive examples, and hands-on activities with multimedia resources, attendees will begin to recognize the core competencies used in the information exchange.
This workshop is for: Certificate of Public Librarianship participants, library staff persons that assist library patrons with information, and those who might want to have a refresher on reference services.
