Services at Local Libraries

There are more than 185 public libraries scattered throughout Vermont, from Alburgh to Vernon, Pownal to Canaan. These libraries vary dramatically in terms of size and hours. Here are just some of the things you might be able to do at your library (not all libraries offer everything):

  • Borrow books, magazines, and often DVDs
  • Read magazines and newspapers
  • Receive help with reference questions
  • Use public computers with internet access
  • Photocopy or print documents
  • Fax documents
  • WiFi access
  • Reserve a study room or meeting room
  • Borrow non-traditional items, like puzzles, telescopes, muffin tines, snowshoes, and more
  • Attend a storytime, book discussion, or other program

Interlibrary Loan - Every library in Vermont has access to the statewide interlibrary loan system. Check with your local library for options to access books outside of their collection!

Other Online Resources - You can typically get a library card if you live in the library’s service area. In some cases non-residents can get a card, possibly with a charge. But even without a card, you can use computers, WiFi, and other services.

Locating Your Library - You can find your local library with this Map and Directory, or you can reach out to our Contact Form if you have any questions.
