VOL gathers together a broad assortment of databases for all ages, and on a huge number of topics. It offers articles from academic journals as well as popular magazines and newspapers. The In Context databases work like a modern encyclopedia, combining articles with context, images, videos, and links. There are databases available for every age-range, from elementary through post-graduate.
What Do I Need?
- Library card from your public library, or login info from your school or college library.
How Do I Access Vermont Online Library?
- Go to https://vtonlinelib.org/.
- Click Change Library in the upper right-hand corner. Click Enter your Library Name, start typing the name of your library, and then select it when it appears.
- If the system asks for your library card, enter it. If the site won't accept your number, please reach out to your local library.
Can I Read Articles from a Specific Newspaper/Magazine?
Users can read articles by issue from many popular magazines, including The New York Times, Economist, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Highlights for Children, National Review, and Runner's World. Articles may be a day or two behind. Some other magazines are available, but have an embargo period (often 1, 6, or 12 months), or stopped availability at some point. Admittedly, it is not as tidy as reading the actual magazine, but users do get all of the information!
- Go to the VOL site
- Choose All Resources and then Popular Magazines
- Publication Search, click List All Publications, and then browser or enter the name of the magazine/newspaper you are looking for and click search.
- Click on the magazine/newspaper you want, and select an issue by date. You’ll see all of the articles in that issue.
